A significant part of the Durham Region's history, Roy Nichols Motors was founded in 1922. Roy, the son of a well known farmer in the community. eventually made outstanding contributions to the local municipal government having served Darlington as Councillor for four years, Deputy Reeve for two and eight as Reeve of the Township.
The business began as a repair garage located on the only road connecting Toronto to Kingston at the time, but by 1933 the company was selling the entire General Motors line.

In 1947 the local paper wrote, "Thousands of people from all parts of the province and beyond who never heard of Courtice learned about it when they journeyed to Roy Nichols' place to buy new and used cars. They traveled from afar and near because word spread that buyers received a square deal at the Courtice dealer's hands. They never were disappointed." We are proud that this is still true today!
Nephews Fred and Roy Owen joined the company right out of school, learning the business from the ground up. From washing cars, to eventually winning salesman awards - the brothers were prepared to continue the legacy of 'fair dealings and honest service' that Roy Nichols had started.
When Roy Nichols passed away in 1969, the company was left in the hands of Fred and Roy - expanding and increasing the contribution the dealership made to the community. 'The customer is everything to us' said Fred Owen, and this commitment to service has set the dealership apart from the many GM outlets in the Durham region - naturally a heavily GM influenced area.
The proof of this is the numerous yet prestigious President's Triple Crown award the dealership has won. Only the top 100 dealerships across North America are bestowed this honour for their top-quality service, their sales rates, and all around performance. In fact countless salesmen have won awards for both sales and customer service. The President's Triple Crown has been awarded to Roy Nichols Motors for 2007.
Roy Nichols was the first GM dealership in the Durham Region, and under the leadership of Robert 'Bob' Owen a nephew of Fred and Roy, the dealership has grown in size and its commitment to earning first place in the minds and hearts of its community. Come experience a part of Durham region history, and while you are here find out what a pleasure buying a car can be!
